Frequently asked questions

What is a certificate of destruction?

A signed record listing each device by serial number, the sanitization or destruction method, verification results, the applicable standard and the date. It is your evidence that data was handled properly.

Is wiping a drive enough?

It can be, if the method suits the media and the result is verified, following NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2 guidelines. Damaged drives and some SSDs should be physically destroyed.
